2009. U.S. Army Sgt. Dustin Kaminiski, of Chicago, Ill., team leader, 1st platoon, Company A, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, assigned to Task Force Mountain Warrior, and U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Johnny L. Bates, of Winchester, Ky., the squad leader for weapons squad, 1st platoon, stand guard in a small village in the Kunar province. Sgt. 1st Class John Borchardt operates the VRCT .50 caliber virtual machine gun while Staff Sgt. David Simmons is at the controls of the VRCT Husky vehicle-mounted mine detector. Both Soldiers are observer-controller-trainers with the 181st Infantry Brigade.
